Gunnar's best friend, Gordon the FBI agent did not attended the wedding because he's not speaking to Gunnar because of a misunderstanding between Gunnar and Gordon's fiancee, Perita Castillo. Tina had indicated that she wanted to tell him something but he said it could wait and he spent a wonderful night with his bride only to find her not in bed with him the next morning shots rang out and he had found his bride shot. he'd called for the ambulance butt she had no vital signs and was pronounced dead at the hospital along with his unborn daughter Tina-Marie. He then was told his brother-in law Doctor Burton was found dead possibly a suicide.

Stray Bullet- Part 39

Before I picked up the letter an idea formed in my mind of something else. I had seen that picture on the mayor Ethan’s desk of his wife, Rita and she had reminded me of someone else I’d met recently. With a lot of surgical work, some dramatic weight loss and some make-up… could it be?

I put the thought aside until I finished the letter. I read…,

To my new brother-in-law, Gee

First of all thank you for marrying my sister and making her happy. I know you’ll keep her and my new niece or nephew safe. I have done something that has entrapped an endangered them both. A year ago I became horribly addicted to fentanyl when I was exposed in the emergency room. I went to rehab, thought I had beaten the addiction and then once I went back to work I became embroiled in the addiction again. I tried to hide it by going to dealers on the street (I didn’t want to get caught at work after all).
I thought I could handle all of this but that’s when she came along. She was my dealer’s boss and she saw a way to use my addiction to her advantage.

She saw how deep my addiction went and when she realized Tina would do anything to protect me she pressured her to be her ally or she’d harm me either with jail or cut off my supply or taint my drugs. Tina didn’t want to work with Rita she hated her but she had no choice if she wanted to save me. Rita didn't want to abandon me.
If you’d ever meet Rita when she was I her nice mode you’d understand the pull she has but when she is in her ‘I’m going to get you mode’ she’s the devil incarnate. Rita slowly helped me to become addicted again… although I could have said no. Of course I didn’t and I must take the blame for being so weak. I should have said no and have gone back to rehab instead I let my addiction own me and my sister.

You see Rita runs a big drug organization and I know she is the one you’re looking for who killed the cops and ran drugs through Driftwood. She set up the Richardson’s they were becoming too much competition. Please see that that bitch pays for her evil deeds and her crimes against Driftwood and my sister.

Now Tina and her baby can be free. Rita has no hold over her and she can be free to live out her life with the love of her life… you Gee.

Rita made Tina cozy up to you; but Tina fell in love with you at first sight and Tina refused to harm you. This made Rita angry; but then she became amused and thought she could control Tina more. She decided to get to you and your organization another way, which I’m sure made you really mad.  Just remember when you feel angry at my sister that Rita threatened to tell you that Tina worked for the very drug organization you were searching for and to get Tina’s medical licence revoked. That would have killed my sister. She loves helping others and is a top notch doctor. Tina Told me she would tell you all of this so I’m not telling you anything new or you wouldn’t have married my sister.

Tina thinks you can protect both of us but I know I’m just a liability that Rita will exploit. So to save us all I’m ending it now. Tell Tina I love her and take good care of my sister.

Make that bitch pay for ruining my life and for all her other crimes; but protect my sister at all costs. She is an angel and you are lucky to have her. Remember that she was between a rock and hard place and that Rita threatened to kill me if she didn’t comply.

Please tell comfort Tina and tell her  not to be too sad and it was my turn to be the hero and save her.

Your brother-in law
Tim

I took a picture on my I-phone of the letter and then I said, “Thank- you, Errol You can take the letter for analysis. I’m heading home for a little bit then I’ll swing back to the station later this afternoon.”
“We can handle this boss. You need some time…”
“It’s Thanksgiving we’re short staffed I’m going home to pretend to eat a little turkey and be with my family. Then I’m coming back to the station. Aunt Louise said that dinner would be ready at three and it’s almost that now.”
“You should eat something boss. If you need anything…”
“I’ll be okay Errol and I’ll eat some turkey for Aunt Louise’s sake.”

Errol looked like he wanted to say something else but he swallowed and then tried to sound normal, “Bring me back a plateful?”

“I’ll do that Errol.”

I was grateful that Errol hadn’t pushed me to stay home. As I got into my car a few minutes later my brain began racing. Rita was the kingpin? But who the hell was this Rita? She couldn’t be the housewife married to the mayor at one time, could she?

Crap what was wrong with me? I thought as it suddenly dawned on me who Rita really was. I knew her and she thought she’d bested me. I wouldn’t let her harm anyone else. I pinned on my badge and stuck my cell phone in my front pocket.

I called the station and let them know who I was going after to gasps from Penny. Penny promised to send me back –up that would meet me at my house before we went after Rita.

I picked up the phone to call Gordon so he could meet me at Aunt Louise’s but there was no answer and when I called back again my cell phone indicated another call was coming in when I was a block from Aunt Louise’s house. I pulled over so I could safely answer but turned on the app that Penny had installed so I could remember the conversation.

“Sheriff Bullet,” I answered.
“Hello darling Gee. Having a great day?” a woman’s voice asked.
“You bitch Rita.” I sniped.
“No, I'm a cunning bitch. So you did figure it out? I had hoped one of the bullets from my gun would have pinged you when I saw you run to Tina’s side; but no such luck. Now my sources say you are looking for me.”
“How? Who? “I said without thinking.
“Are you discombobulated? Good! But I’m still waiting for you.”
“What do you mean you’re waiting for me?”
“Louise welcomed me into the house. Your daughter on the other hand bit me. a bit uncivilized and babyish, don't you think! You and Louise ought to have taught her better manners when someone is holding a gun on you.”
“If you’ve harmed one hair on either of them,” I threatened.
“You know how this works Gee. Such a funny name Gee, Gordon said it stood for something; but he wouldn’t tell me what. The damn man is so loyal to you even when he’s angry with you. How did you make him into your lap dog? Oh well, no matter that obstacle will be finished today. I’m tired of competing with the oh so perfect friend, Gee Bullet. If he hadn’t proven himself with me I think he was gay. Then one of my men would have killed him. They are not so politically enlightened like me.”
“You enlightened? Let my family go!!”
“Not to worry I won’t harm a hair on their pretty little heads .I’m only holding them prisoner until you come home. Then I’ll let them go after you give yourself up to me.”
To be continued.
Next week the big reveal of who Rita is. that is if you haven;t guessed from the hints.

Three Word Wednesday-Stray Bullet- Part 38

When we last left our hero. Sheriff Gunnar Bullet, he'd rashly married quickly in Vegas because his six months relationship with Doctor Tina Weldon had resulted in a pregnancy.. They don't seem to know about each other (she didn't even know when his birthday was) and his Aunt Louise though opposed to the union, gave in and supported him and Tina as not to lose Gunnar. The drug organization terrorizing the town seemed wrapped up in a tidy little bow as the culprits were in custody, as well as the murderers of the town's cops and families but Gunnar still has lingering doubts. Gunnar's best friend, Gordon the FBI agent did not attended the wedding because he's not speaking to Gunnar because of a misunderstanding between Gunnar and Gordon's fiancee, Perita Castillo. Tina had indicated that she wanted to tell him something but he said it could wait and he spent a wonderful night with his bride only to find her not in bed with him the next morning. (Tina came back with coffee as he was in the shower) As he stepped out of the shower  and put on his boxer shorts he heard Tina open the front door and then shots rang out and he had found his bride shot. he'd called for the ambulance but she had no vital signs. Reaching the hospital he hoped and prayed they'd save Tina and the baby but it didn't happen when he picked up the phone to tell his brother-in law he found out his brother-in law was dead too.

Stray Bullet- Part 38

If I hadn't known this was Thanksgiving I'd have thought it was Groundhog Day or the Ides of March. How could Tina's half-Brother be dead too?

“How long do they think he was there, Errol?”

There was a whispered conversation near the phone then Errol stated, “A few hours. I think it was a suicide boss; but of course there will be an autopsy. There’s a note addressed to you. I was just about to open it up but I’ll wait for you and Tina before reading it.”
“Tina’s dead.”
“What in the hell is going on? I’m so sorry, sir, I forgot myself. I’m so sorry for your loss. Was that the shooting call that came in boss?”
“Yes, I’m coming up, what floor?”
“Third floor, sir,” Errol said tautly then hung up.
“Will you stay her with them and arrange for the funeral home…to pick them up? I’ll speak with the director Hiram Packer later about the arrangements,” I asked Penny.
“I’ll make arrangements for all of them Gee. Don’t worry now, go see about Doctor Burton. But first give me your cell phone.”

Obediently I gave it to her and Penny did something with it and then handed it back to me a few minutes later.

“What did you do?” I asked.
“I installed an app on your I-phone it will record all incoming and outgoing calls, It will also record and conversations if you wish you just press this button and say aloud I wish I could record this and it instantly records,” Penny explained.
“But why did you do that?”

“You’re going to need an edge just to carry on in the next few days. Conversations may escape you, your mind will wander of its own accord and your brain will fog in and out this will help. But for heaven sake if you figure out who did this and go after them take back up. Promise me boss,” Penny pleaded.
“I promise,” I answered obediently then shaking my head vigorously in agreement knowing full well that I wouldn’t wait for backup if I found this perpetrator.

I laid my daughter down and kissed her sweet cheek goodbye and said vigourously, “I’ll be back, Tina-Marie. I have to find out who did this. I promise you baby they’ll pay.”

I wiped away the tears that threatened to overtake me again and pulled myself together I had a job to do and I would do it. I stiffed my back and rage shook within me. Whoever had killed Tina and my baby girl would pay.

In the elevator I wracked my brain, who was this Rita and why did the name sound so familiar? I tried to root out the memory in my brain and then I recalled Ethan Calladen’s ex-wife’s name. Her name was Rita.
She was that awful woman who had been found naked beside a dead John Calladen, (Aunt Louise’s husband). Aunt Louise had underestimated her. It couldn’t be her. Could it? Why would she come after Tina?

I stepped off the elevator and went to the doctor’s lounge. Errol was examining the scene and I was grateful for his thoroughness.

“Gee, are you sure you should be working? I can handle this boss.”
“I know you can and I expect you to; but I’d like to see the note.”
“Sure. Normally I would have read it; but since it was addressed to you…”
“That’s okay Errol. Always read the evidence. I’ll give it back to you so you can log it in after I’m done.”
“That’s the other thing boss, even though I suspect a suicide, the drug he used was fentanyl.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yes, he had some packets in his hands.”
“Were they from the hospital pharmacy?”
“Yes, they were.”

Before I picked up the letter an idea formed in my mind of something else. I had seen that picture on the mayor Ethan’s desk of his wife, Rita and she had reminded me of someone else I’d met recently. With a lot of surgical work, some dramatic weight loss and some make-up… could it be?
